Project Title:PeupleCouture
Winner of Scholarships 2009-10, Master of Fashion Marketing and Communication, School of Fashion, IED Barcelona

Project Title: PeupleCouture
Winner of Scholarships 2009-10, Master of Fashion Marketing and Communication, School of Fashion, IED Barcelona

IDEA

The idea is to create a clothing company featuring collections of outfits inspired by traditional gowns and typical patterns of a country that currently faces a problem such as poverty, hunger, lack of drinkable water or access to education among others. Each collection is unique and focuses and draws attention to a particular region in need. The name PeupleCouture defines the whole brand, clothing made by people for people. PeupleCouture carries prêt-à-porter dresses and accessories for stylish women. The clothes are more affordable than haute couture lines, available for wider range of customers. The company sells its products both through internet and a chain of stores all over the world. PeupleCouture promotes ethical fashion, the production is sweatshop free, the company uses only organic, fair trade fabrics.

OBJECTIVE

The mission of PeupleCouture except from providing women with a collection of affordable, couture-quality dresses is to draw people’s attention to countries that are currently facing serious problems. The company supports the troubled country by buying organic, traditional fabrics and accessories from local producers. Wherever it is possible PeupleCouture produces its clothing lines in the areas that are in need and that way provides jobs for local people. PeupleCouture’s website gives detailed information about current problems, ways to help and the organizations that work with people in crisis situations. It also donates a percentage of it’s sales for those organizations.

CAMPAIGN

PeupleCouture’s advertising campaign is at the same time public awareness campaign. It aims not only to promote the collection but also to inform and remind about countries that are facing serious social or ecological problems. The promotion focuses on billboards, posters and magazines. The purpose of the campaign is to draw ones attention through a strong image contrast – juxtaposition of the same dresses, just in different patterns (the so thought to be classical one and the ethno inspired one) as well as opposed environments. Peuple versus Couture.

Project Title: “Cambia tu manera de ver el Mundo”
Winner of Scholarships 2009-10, Master of Strategic and Creative Management of Integral Advertising, School of Communication, IED Barcelona

My project consists of a nonprofit awareness campaign that encourages each individual to “change the way they see the world” by employing, as main visual character, a simple tool: the “magnifying glass”. I aim to draw attention to our planet’s issues through its lens in the same manner advertising highlights products for the public’s consumption. Moreover, it is my goal to apply this project to groundbreaking venues by presenting the message to the audience in a direct and unexpected way and provoking reflection, education, conscience, and change in “the way we see our world”.

The magnifying glass is the element in the spotlight meaning to take us closer to our world’s problems. We tend to overlook these issues everyday but they are there and in need of our attention. Likewise, it provides a stark contrast between reality and ideality.

Throughout my research of the project, I realized our planet’s needs are broad, but easily grouped in three categories: social issues, socioeconomics and environmental. Due to the numerous hardships our Mother Earth and its habitants endure everyday, I chose to highlight one example within each category.

First, amidst the social issues, we’ll see how a homeless man sleeping on the streets without any shelter, and whom we normally pass by, is viewed through our “magnifying glass” and becomes the image of a human being deserving the opportunity to sleep under a roof, on a bed, dreaming of a better tomorrow.

Next, on the socioeconomic angle, the “magnifying glass” draws attention to the contrast between a child surviving extreme poverty, hopeless of having a happy childhood, and another surrounded by life. This one is trying to point out every child’s right to play in a safe, clean and caring environment. Finally, among all the environmental problems our world is facing today, our excessive use of paper and resulting destruction of the lungs of our planet. We find our “magnifying glass” inviting us to preserve our trees by recycling and reducing our massive paper consumption.

Project Title: Eco chameleon yacht 127′
Winner of Scholarships 2009-10, Master of Yacht Design, School of Design, IED Venezia

Nowadays lots of designers tend to create an universal design which would satisfy the needs of their clients. During that process they are forced to make many compromises between many different desires of their clients, not fulfilling any of these completely.

A contemporary man needs a brand new concept of design, a changeable design. In yacht industry, a contemporary man needs a yacht that is fully adaptable to his desires. A yacht that can change. An adaptable yacht. A yacht that adapts to the day and night, to the mood of its owners, to the open sea and fully crowded harbor. A yacht that connects a man to nature or separates them from it.

Giant windows represent the central part of that yacht i.e. screens on both sides of yacht. These screens are made of smart glass. Therefore it is possible to adjust the amount of light inside the yacht, the exterior of the yacht, the level of the compatibility with the surroundings as well as create different atmosphere depending on the desires of the owner.

Thanks to the energy that is collected through the solar panels placed on sun deck, these panels are self-sustainable and eco friendly. The panels are placed in two layers, and the middle buffer zone is at the same time a great thermal and acoustic insulation.

Electronically switchable glass is eco friendly material which blocks 99,5% of the UV rays. Thanks to the maximum amount natural light the yacht doesn’t need to use so much energy for artificial light.

Project Title: Adaptation
Winner of Scholarships 2009-10, Master of Fashion and Textile Design, School of Fashion, IED Milano

Experts constantly talk about the oncoming financial and economic crisis and the fierce from recession affecting the entire world. In a certain extent it is already a fact and according to the surveys people are less likely to buy clothes or accessories, not to mention cars and real estates. The fashion sector is also at a standstill which provokes an incredible loss of money, very few profits and the inevitable decision to make some budget cuts in the creation of a luxury fashion collection. Some of the famous designers have even decided to pull out of showing their collection in Fashion Weeks, citing the failing economy as their major reason for doing so.

Taking the present situation in the economy as inspiration, this project wants to present a multifunctional garment which allows people to save money when paying for one single clothes and becoming several. In this way the project meets the current needs of the consumers and gives them a practical solution how to be elegant and to adapt swiftly to the vast changing environment at the same time.

Depending on the mood people can modify the garment according to the weather conditions or their liking, thus, giving a totally new look of their appearance while playing with their creativity. On sunny days and in worm nights it is a vintage looking dress which can be easily transformed into a short large collar jacket when it get’s cold. For the aim of this project I am using the cuts of two shirts connected by specific buttoning. When the dress is being unbuttoned to the definite place, it becomes possible to turn this unbuttoned part inside out and to put it on. By doing so the wearer is free to button it on any place in order to have the desired form while shaping the collar only with a single move. This project is made of silk taffeta, cool wool and plastic mac – three completely different in their structure materials, deliberately chosen to stress out the multiple functions of the garment.

The message behind the ADAPTATION project is clear – our world is changing, the economy is changing too and we have to react accordingly if we do not want to be caught unaware. This garment may not change the world globally, but it will change our daily living.

Winner of Scholarships 2009-10, Master of Sustainable Urban Design, School of Design, IED Roma

Project Title: Bike route and visual perception of the city landscape in Bourgas city
Winner of Scholarships 2009-10, Master of Sustainable Urban Design, School of Design, IED Roma

GOAL of the project:

The main goal of the project is to present a bike-route in Bourgas, which will be situated in the central part of the city and the nearby standing quarters, it will provide easy access to the places, which are not directly served by public transport. The bike-route must also provide the best city view to the city landscape, the natural sights and to give access to the objects of cultural heritage and recreation parks of the city of Bourgas. Main goal is to create a public bike system with bicycles, provided by the municipality, and encourage intermodal transportation.

RANGE

The project ranges the most active part of the city and includes roads, pedestrian lanes and streets. The development and improvement of the functions in this territory must be subordinate to a goal: to construct cycle lanes, whose usage is economically beneficial to the citizens, offers easy and healthy way of moving, reduces the car traffic and improves the microclimate.

URBAN BICYCLE TRANSPORTATION

The most popular urban bicycle transportation is Public bike system, which is adopted by the cities, where riding a bike is a way of transportation. Public bike system is the ancestor of the Bicycle sharing system (also known as Yellow Bicycle programs, White Bicycle programs, public bike or free bike). Main goal of the system is to place bikes at the citizens’ disposal, in this way they don’t use their own bikes and cars and can move around the city very easily.

Municipality governments and public organizations present the system as intermodal transportation, that gives its users the opportunity to easily change transport and facilitates transit passing. Bicycle sharing systems can be divided into two general categories: Community Bike programs organized mostly by local community groups or non-profit organizations; and Smart Bike programs implemented by municipalities or through public-private partnerships, as in the case of Paris’ Vélib’ program.

Project Title: “BioTransformer”
Selected for Scholarships 2010-11, Three year Course of Transportation – Car Design, School of Design, IED Turin

Project Title: “BioTransformer”
Selected for Scholarships 2010-11, Three year Course of Transportation – Car Design, School of Design, IED Turin

The general world concern is that our planet needs our help to decrease the global warming pollution generated and avoid contamination; consequently, people around the world are proposing working ideas on how we can contribute to one complex goal: To Save The Planet. One of the main reasons why our planet is in real danger is due to our daily transportation system, as driving cars is the most air polluting act that citizens commit, so we must think in reducing air pollution by changing the design and use of motor vehicles.

Here in Colombia, my country of origin and where I live, we are not indifferent to this problem and the awareness for protecting our environment has equally increased greatly as we have one of the best biodiversity of the planet and we don’t want that to be threatened or compromise its beauty. However, as a developing country, our population growth and recent strong economy has led to an increase in the number of vehicles in our roads as more households are able to afford them. This is generating, especially in middle sized urban towns, great concern for pollution levels.

Automotive companies around the world are changing the way they design and build their cars, some of them are using recycled materials and some are using other ways of propulsion for their cars. Some of the advances in car technology design are brilliant solutions in mitigating the problem, however that is not enough.

From my point of view, there is a topic or area that companies have not explored in depth: a vehicle that not only avoids air contamination, but in some way de-contaminates the environment. Consequently that is what my proposal of designing a vehicle, which I have denominated as a “BioTransformer”, intends to do.

This project will help to solve the problem and it is simple in the way it works. Each wheel of the car has an electric engine that will provide the energy to move the car at a responsible speed. In front and at the sides of the car it will have air entrances that will absorb the contaminated air, inside, there´s going to be a filter and a purifier that will transform the toxic air in healthy green and clean air for us, making our planet a better place to live. Can you imagine millions of cars decontaminating our planet Day by day?

When I think about my proposal, I see hope, I see cities full of green and beautiful trees, I see traffic but with cars helping decontaminate the environment, everybody helping one cause, the only goal that really matters right now in our life is to Save the place we live in : Our Planet.

Project Title: FOOD LOVERS
Winner of Scholarships 2009-10, Master of Packaging Design, School of Design, IED Milano

The idea of this project is to promote a more healthy food consumption and, concurrently, to also promote sustainable local agriculture, which involves methods that do not harm the environment, respect workers and animals, provide fair wages to farmers and support farming communities.

Sustainability has a lot to do with buying food as locally as possible, so it is important that the package informs the benefits that buying locally grown can bring to the consumer and to the support of family farms and rural communities.

There are many other reasons why buying local food is both rewarding and delicious, including enjoying the taste of fresh food, improved health and nutrition and environmental stewardship. A person who appreciates food likes to feel all the senses that involves cooking, eating and serving it.

The sense of touch (when preparing a plate), sense of smell (when feeling the aroma), vision (when seeing an attractive plate, pleasant to the eye), sense of hearing (when hearing the sound of food being cooked) and finally sense of taste (when appreciating the taste of it). All this preparation involves patience, calm and no hurry. The whole process is an experience, which starts in the moment you go to the market to buy fresh ingredients to do your cooking.

I have created a brand for a little market, that sells products of its own farm. Is called FOOD LOVERS. This brand is for people who appreciate tasty food, like to know where they came from, and care about all the elements involved in its production. The typography was created after a research on little markets, where the products are traditionally mentioned on a blackboard, in large separated letters written with a piece of chalk.

The idea of the hand in the brand come up because it is the greatest instrument that a person needs to do cooking. With the hand the sauce is tasted, the salt is sprinkled, the dough is kneaded, the quantity of oil is controlled, the limon is squeezed, the bread is sliced, and so on. The changing symbol shows the movement of the hole process of cooking. The hands interact with the typography of chalk, “tasting” and “preparing” it, as if it was fresh food, came right from the farm.

I have made a set of five packages and a fair bag. All the products has references of particular things that reminds old packages, regarding the idea that food used to be more natural and healthy than nowadays.

This elements are shown on all five packages: the cheese (packed with one sheet of craft paper wrapped up with a twine), the bottle of milk made with glass, the coffee packed with a twine, the traditional bag fair, and the little cone package of coffee, resembling packages that used to be sold in small quantities. All of the packages have a phrase inviting people to try this food, in a familiar and welcoming way.

Winner of Scholarships 2009-10, Master of Graphic Design, School of Design, IED Barcelona

The idea of this project is disentangle and show how simple actions can give to someone one soft and worthy life, even with the stress, rushing, frustrations.

In this part of my project, the ” small actions can make a big difference” is a poster, formed by 9 detachable postcards. Together they form a poster, joined by the phrase “small actions can make a big difference”. The idea is to illustrate 9 simple actions which could make a better world. Each postcard is an action, which can be do it isolated, but when realizes by the phrase stamped that more postcards exist, where this especific action being part of, give the idea of a group, that we are a team where each one it complements another one for a bigger benefit.

On this illustrations there are hands always, which means action, something that you can do by yourself. It was like a instruction manual of how to do this actions.

Actions to be illustrated: Smile, talk, share, say good morning, help, say thank you, listen, respect, understand.

Behind of each postcard, there’s a place to put a stamp, if you want to send by mail, or put your photo, in this case if you want to deliver by yourself.

And also the illustration is an sticker. So the person who receive this postcard can put this sticker in any place, to comunicate the message to other people.

Everything is printed on recycled papers, and the phrase is stamped with silkscreen.
