I am from Iran. One of the most striking feature of the women\\\’s apparel of my country is the scarf which is called “Hijab”.This traditional belief can be traced back to Qajar era.

This kind of cover is compulsory in my country and this coercion has created conflict between reality and personal preferences in our minds, which is reflected in my design.

One of the concept of my design is to show the contrast between traditional and present beliefs of Hijab. The scarfs concept traditional way is to divert human attention, but in design it has been demonstrated the conflict between former traditional beliefs and contemporary opinions by using the special kind of fabric which catch people attention.

The state of mind is conceptually reflected by texture of the design. The images which shows the covered face or partially covered body, convey the ideological representation of women’s state of mind. Hijab camouflages the natural beauty and decreases the innate self confidence.

Therefore , the critical points has led me rethink the design of Hijab and establish it as fashion icon in the global scenario.

Il mio progetto si chiama : „Sei libero. Sei creativo. Sei vivo“.

siamo liberi, siamo creativi, siamo diversi e siamo vivi!

P.S. Ho utilizzato anche qualche dettaglio tradizionali.
• Materiale di sacco di patate. (Ci sono tanti piatti tradizionali di patate).
• Il mare Baltico. Ho usato il motivo dell’onda.

“Forse ora sai in qualle paese vivo? “

My country, as other countries in the region, has economic , political, education and overall development problems. Despite this common panorama, I prefer to see it as a book with blank pages wich are waiting to be written. Guatemala is a beautiful country, full of color, landscapes and life, where our spring lasts all year.

This production is inspired by this dream I have, it is the marriage of two concepts, technology and Guatemalan culture. Through this collection I designed, inspired by a futuristic being, I express the desire to make my country overcome its problems and use technology in it’s favor. Furthermore the use of traducional element is expressed in the background we use for this photoshoot, wich is the central market of Guatemala City. Here we see a part of what the Guatemalan culture is, a culture full of color, textures and traditions. And this is where I made the merger of the two concepts, presented a futuristic inspired collection combined with prints inspired by my contry’s color and tradition richness, I also used some locally produced textiles and other imports.

Through the foundation of the brand Waltheria, out of personal reasons, I intend to start a fashion industry in my country, because we produce large quantities of textiles and work in sweatshops to produce garments wich are sold in other countries under foreing brands names, leaving our country low profit levels. Besides I am the founder of Esa Cosa Llamada Moda, a designers, photographers and fashion journalists organization whose aim is to concentrate and signify the fashion content produced in the country.

This is my proposal, to move from the backstage to the scene and to become actors insted of just spectators.

19 years old Mongolian girl Anu Altansukh is me. I come from a country with Great History in the past and with a Bright Hope in the Future. For me, this IED Scholarship Program is a great opportunity to present my country to whole world.

For presenting my project to a global audience I’ve chosen national women’s costume of Mongolia and its patterns and prints. Main idea of my project is to transform the traditional daily use costume into an evening gown or red carpet dress.

Each woman had her own dress, costume and outfit. Patterns, prints and embroideries had their own significations and value. Selection of a costume depends on many things, for example: age, marriage status, children, family status and status of your husband.

Costumes and clothes were generally modest, and all patterns, embroidery and decoration were sewn by hand. Main shape of the garment was loose and not fitted; the bottom was maxi or floor length.
Here is my transformation of Mongolian national women’s costume and its patterns into something global garment that anyone could use.

The traditions have existed for centuries, IED said, “tell me about your country, your people, your language, traditions., I want you to create a design inspired” and I do.

My design is inspired by traditional customs woman for the “Day of the Dead” in Michoacan.,
They use the lace on their dresses and veils,

Why white butterflies? Because the woman takes the butterflies and release it at night to remember relativies dead.
Why black and white? Because black means mourning.
Take to create a dress for a cocktail party or disco night.

I can take to create a tradition and fashion
My country (Mexico) have a lot of things of beauty to talk about it, but the only one that celebrates the dead corpses and the dead laugh.
Hope you like my design.

My name is Saileht Navas and my project is to promote recycling in my country Venezuela.
The concept of my project is to create awareness of recycling because the concept of recycling does not yet exist in my country but at the same time waste levels are very high and we do not have sufficient waste collectors in populated areas, neighborhoods, parks, beaches and residential areas.

The Cornerstone of my recycling project is the glass container, designed to collect glass bottles and sort them directly in the different colors (Green, White and brown)

My proposal is to design these glass collectors in a traditional Venezuelan Style which are the Huts made out of wood and palm leaves on a wood frame and inner concentric circles and a roof made out of palm leaves that are made waterproof.

The shape and design of the glass container will be very recognizable by the general population and thus help greatly to promote environmental education and a better quality of life

The container itself consists of 3 seperated divisions (white, brown and green) and is made out of a durable plastic which makes the containers easy to produce at a low cost

If we are talking about what we should proud of our country, surely my mind would think about of its culture. Every culture in MY COUNTRY can be ensured always has a traditional clothes.

So, the question is : Why did I choose Baju Bodo (Bodo Clothes)?

First of all, I was born in South Sulawesi where the Baju Bodo came from, but I have not been growing up there. Strangely, I was having a strong connection with this traditional clothes (maybe) because I wore it sometimes in special occasion since I was a kid. So, my curiosity direct me to knowing the characteristic of its clothes and re-design it in order to make it proper in international market. Wishing Baju Bodo will be born in international world as I was born in a region of its origin.

Its characteristic is in its sarung, called Sarung Bugis. Bugis is a name of South Sulawesi native. Sarung Bugis has characteristic and it is in its motif produced by the differences of thread color application using Tenun (weaving) technique; very own traditonal technique from Indonesia.

Sarung Bugis has a strong value in international market as long as the design of the outfit could fit with the market. I have thought to make it more modern without relieving its characteristic from the culture value. So, I integrated its characteristic with a type of clothes, CAPE. Then, many peoples could wear it not only in special occasion, but also in the other occasion. It is not an ordinary ready-to-wear clothes, but it has a precious culture value on it.

I live in a country and a city with an abundance of culture and art. Spain is known worldwide for its traditions and cuisine. But mostly about fashion and clothing: tight suits are the key symbol. However these are associated with different parties in which the bull-fights and killings are common.

With my project I intend to show in my place of origin may be abundant art and joy without having to resort to the unnecessary deaths of these animals. It is sad that today, people from other cultures associate Spain with the killing of bulls.

My idea is to represent a nation full of joy, life, light and color and finish with something that years ago this taking place and although considered a tradition no longer a crime that violates the rights of life animals.

Guatemala is a country of numerous traditions; it is also the country were I was born.

During Holy Week a tradition that takes over everyone is the creation of ceremonial carpets. It consists on stencils with religious designs which one fills with coloured sawdust. That is how we create beautiful prints on the street, making the street ready for the precession.

That is what I took on for my project. When I read the guidelines and it stated how I needed to aim for innovation through tradition, I thought about two items anyone in the search for innovation should have; Brains and Heart. From the collision of such items with the process of creation of the ceremonial carpets “Typically Innovating”, my project was born.

I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

To support this greater idea of sustainability, I wanted to create a piece that is sustainable and will not jeopardize our current and future social, environmental, and economic resources. One main issue in the world today is realization of clean and efficient transportation. Most people today use either cars, trains, or busses to get around. Unfortunately these means of transportation let out harmful emission that pollute the atmosphere.

Sao Paulo, Brazil, being one of the most polluted cities in the world, has found a way to be energy independent using ethanol. But does not solve the issue of harmful gasses emitted in our environment. The amount of harmful gasses emitted could be curved if we used more energy efficient vehicles like bikes or even longboards.
I wanted to combine one of Brazil’s most urban form of art, graffiti, and mix it with one of Brazil’s largest growing hobbies, skating. The tribal face is both black and white to give a sense of strong balance. The two women, light and dark, holds the balance together in one spot. The dripping colors that run away from the balance explain how most things are not one way or the other, there are different variations and exceptions.

The first time on a long board I did not become an expert, it took some falling and getting back up which goes along with everything in life. Once you find your rhythm, equilibrium comes naturally. The wood by the wheels are cut out and curved so the wheel wont get caught on the board during a turn, simple changes to stay firm on the board.

Everything that surrounds us represent something of ours; there is a deep connection between our background and how we represent ourselves, that is why accepting what we are is indispensable for understanding us thoroughly and for being able to connect with others without loosing our core.

I believe that preserving some of a country’s traditions is vital to maintain its people’s identity. Because of this I wanted to recreate some of the Colombian traditions and use them as my source of inspiration.

I utilize some distinct elements maintained by existing ethnic groups of my country, of which I decided to take 2 of the most emblematic indigenous groups that are located in the Atlantic coast of the country.

Both indigenous groups interweave palm leaves as a base to carry different elements, such as food. I applied this technique for constructing the jacket. The colors used throughout the entire outfit were taken from both clans, which are known by their bright, acid, eye-catching colors, used in their clothing and ornaments. The necklace was a recreation of the Embera clan, recognize by their bare-chested beaded necklace use as their main and most significant element of their outfit, representing by its size the rank of the woman. The dress was inspired by the emblematic Wayuú women, distinguished by their flowing, loosely dress, wear to cool them while working in the hot climate.

I wanted to represent these indigenous woman and my country’s past and tradition in a way our modern society feels included and attracted towards, using materials and silhouettes concordant with today’s necessities.

The possibility are endless this might even contribute to new innovations from haute couture to avant garde. furthermore, this will also provide livelihood programs to people who produce this materials. the world will be a better place to live in if we give back to mother nature and maximize the resources she provided for us.

This project is intended to raise SOCIAL AWARENESS about problems of ethnic based discrimination from a totally new perspective.
Some of the problems that affect Romania\’s image in the world is the Gypsies Issue. So far the problem has provoked a lot of shame feelings among ordinary Romanians and has caused the state to implement segregation type of measures.

My angle is to shed a different light on this cultural heritage that is part of our country, and has given us many jewels for the \”Queen\’s crown\”. We, and the rest of the world should look at this issue from a different perspective, that should try to harvest the wonderful qualities that these people have (just like any other person on the planet, because we all have something special), help them grow up to their potential, not keeping them away from sight and tell the world about them with pride. They are our people. People of the World.

My grandfather is a gypsy. He is 93, and still very passionate about music, still insists in playing his violin barely hearing with his hearing device – to my grandmother\\\’s irritation. He had been for 2 years in the Conservatory School studying violin while he was young. After 2 years he had to give up and go to work in order to help raise his younger brothers of his poor gypsy family. Not all stories have a happy ending. I hope mine will.

In Turkish culture there is very importance of the cabinet. Because the Turks are formed by large families. The Turks like the hospitality and the importance they give to their guests. Even if the children are married continue to live together with their parents. They do not go away from home. Father, mother, children, grandfather, grandmother all live together. There was a bedroom for every family in the house only.Because the people have maximum freedom.

Because of this situation, the bedrooms dedicated to people in the house offers more possibilities to them.In this point the cabinets are very important. The living space becomes more and more inadequate when members of the families grow.

If we speak about globalized world we think saving energy or think use of little space. There are big problems in our lives. I chose to do a use of little space. I tried to create an industrial design that I have from my benefit Turkish culture. This project would also be useful if there aren\’t guests. For this reason I put the ironing board and laundry.

Because these objects can also be used in everyday life.
When I was doing this are also influenced by my room which is very small. I thought \’how can I effectively use this space?\’. I wanted to do a wardrobe that serves all the world to make life easier.

While making this project I plugged into the history, traditions and uniqueness of Lithuanian design, how the time influenced the changing of interior at paesants‘ homes and in general – was design topical for people?

Just a century ago timbered houses, western style estates with different style inherited furniture dominated in Lithuania, whereas 20 years ago the traditional interior of a rural house looked as follows: wallpapers with flowery pattern, couch covered with a bedspread purchased abroad, huge compartment, furnace, painted wooden floor and kitchen furniture.
Perhaps it is due to the prevailing situation and the independence, which was regained 20 years ago, that today Lithuanians can‘t boast about the outstanding interior style or tradition of unique design, however they can and have to appreciate the old house and its unique interior dictated by time.

In my sketches you can see namely the interior, which was created 20 years ago in one Lithuanian village – Didžiasalis (the village is protected as a cultural heritage). Of course there were not many household appliances then, however now a young family often has holiday here because they have inherited this house from grandparents.
Since the topic is „My country: how can we contribute the global innovations“, I decided that my project will be about the ways how the interior can be changed applying the innovations, however remaining the image of the old house as well as rural atmosphere; how to apply new household appliances without dwarfing wood; how to create coziness, warmth without modernizing the interior.
I am not against innovations but for application of global innovations to create something new but at the same time unique so that it could warm the heart and give coziness…

I am Russian and one of the main features of my country is how forests
dominate the landscape and infuse the culture. Indeed, the Russian
forests comprise about 22% of the world, with taiga forests in the
north of holding about 15% of the carbon dioxide on the planet. The
forest is very important for me as it is for many people who have
grown up and live here. Russia, barring a few cities, is a country of
small towns and wild villages located in the surrounding forests. At
the moment, the number of these forests are shrinking rapidly. Russia
is one of three countries where the reduction in forest area is the
most rapid.

My project is an interactive marketing strategy for an online fashion
store which will present the fashion projects of Russian designers and
simultaneously contribute to the protection of the environment and to
protecting the forests in particular.

My goal is to create an online store which would be an innovative
online platform that unites Russian producers of organic clothing and
designers who share the ideas of environmental responsibility. The
marketing strategy of the online fashion store is not simply to
promote russian stylish clothes and accessories made from friendly
natural materials but also to offer direct assistance to the
environment through choices available to each buyer at the store.

Highlights of the online fashion store’s marketing strategy:

1) With the support of environmental organizations the store will
carefully examine the most problematic areas of the Russian forests
and select the areas requiring support with the highest priority
(certain regions or types of tree).

2) The store will offer to each purchaser the choice of which area of
support for the Russian forests the company should direct its profits.
The customer might have the opportunity to support the planting of the
forest in a particular region or support a planting of a particular
species of tree, for example, a planting in the boreal forests in the
Russian north. Help and links to further information will be
available throughout the site as well as on the post-purchase
selection pages to enable the buyer to make an informed choice on how
to help the Russian forests.

3) To reward loyal customers the store will present them with links to
interesting educational material on enviromental issues. The customer
can post these links to social network sites and can earn reward
points if the links are followed. Rewards might include discount
cards or free gifts.

The photoshoot, presented on the IED site, is a part of the marketing
strategy for the store and it represents the mystical, creative and
social forces that draw the Russian people in communion with the
forest. My contributions to the photoshoot include: the concept,
style, organization and implementation (specifications for the
photographer, models, make up and hair style artists).

This is a ring which combines tradition and modern elements. Its surface orange ornamentation , the traditional moire and flowers pattern represents the beauty, peace and harmony .At the same time , these decorations is thin film solar cell. A small light-emitting device in its internal settings , with absorption of energy during the day , in order to sparkle in the night .The entire wheel of the ring is a crystal , the light transmission rate is very good .

With these , you can make the light bulb lights hidden in the ring internal transmission out , easier to shine the ring through the top of the purple crystal , so that it can issue a dazzling brilliance in the night . It can also be projected decoration on both sides of the ring, reflected the shadow and the wearer’s surroundings . This was inspired by Chinese shadow play .

Nowadays, this ring is also the environmental harmony . Through this work , I would like to express some of the traditions are not negative , and this will help people with the retrial of the relationship between tradition and modernity , and it will contribute to the development of the world ‘s better .
