Project Title: B- Store
Selected for Scholarships 2009-10, MBA of Luxury and Fashion Management, School of Fashion, IED Milano
A better world is a broad concept. It involves the well being of humans, animals and nature. Furthermore, it is about creating an environment that is friendly for everyone to live and flourish in.
A way for the fashion industry to contribute to this goal is to produce under eco- and labour friendly circumstances. Such initiatives, that are rooted and involve decisions at executive level, have been known for a while. Unfortunately the cooperation of a few individuals is not enough to raise awareness amongst the general public and to improve the overall situation. The general public will continue to buy mass-production, because of the price/design proportion. I wanted to think of a way to involve the average consumer in sustainability and to make them more conscious about their choices in fashion, by offering them a world friendly alternative that is simultaneously very affordable.
Magazines and the fashion industry at large stimulate the acquisition of clothes, since the fashion system evolves around the change of style images. These rapid changes in fashion, taste, and aesthetics stimulate consumerism expressed in shopping. A way to make this system of mass production and consumption more world-friendly is represented by my concept named B-store.
The concept does not require big changes in lifestyle, nor does it lecture you to buy less or only natural products. What it does offer is a way to recycle clothes in systematized manner and update your wardrobe on a regular basis for a broad public. This way you can continue to buy what you like, but at the same time it will have value for others around the world. Curious? Open up my B-store project and see how it can contribute to a better world.
