Project Title: THE HOUSE IN THE CONTEMPORARY CARIBBEAN
Selected for Scholarships 2009-10, Master of Sustainable Architecture, School of Design, IED Torino
Taking like reference and foundation the typical elements characteristic of the Spanish Tropical Architecture, being understood the Dominican Traditional Vernacular Architecture and applying the concepts related to the acceptance of the favorable climatic conditions, thus inserting elements that protect of the solar incidence in their facade the west and the ventilation crossed in the internal spaces throughout the project. The following elements are obtained:
The gallery located towards the west prevents that the sun of the west affects the rooms directly.
One double covering (skin) in the ceiling appears and an abstraction of the ceiling to two waters, by means of which also it leaves the hot air.
As form of support to the intention to maintain the nears space with a optimum climate and the flow of crossed ventilation, takes one from the characteristics of the Dominican Vernacular Architecture, implementing the use of piles allowing therefore the passage of winds.
Change of the traditional distribution, in search of fortifying the coexistence (relation), of the family, separating the social activities (common areas) of the basic ones (to sleep, washed), thus positioning to 1er level the rooms and in 2do. The social areas
