Project title: Art Cafe - Azerbaijan
Selected for scholarships 2009-2010, Course of Interior Design, School of Design, IED Milan

One of the strongest impressions a person could get is facing a masterpiece, no matter in which particular field, painting or sculpture, literature or music, whatever. Mostly, you can see the greatest works of art in the museums, exhibitions, and galleries. My idea is to make them more popular and available to wide range of people in their everyday life, to awake an interest and knowledge in arts, desire to get closer with the works of our national painters.

I would like to design an art café in my native town, with the elements and fragments of paintings drawn by Azeri artists. It would be a place, where people could meet each other, relax or discuss their problems in the sophisticated atmosphere and at the same time to get known with the greatest samples of Azeri art. I do believe that this will motivate someone to get more about history of Azerbaijanian culture, where painting occupies a prominent place along with various kinds of fine and applied art.

This café would be some kind of anthology of Azeri painting, demonstrating the best works of Azeri artists.

Impressive! Striking idea! Superb design! A wonderful harmony of modernity, rich Azeri folklore, history and national tradition. I think you already succeeded in your goal to popularize Azeri art. Even your sketch helped me to discover new talented pieces of Azeri fine art. Thank you! Well done! I can’t wait to enjoy a cup of fragrant Azeri tea in your café!

Excellent idea! This is what we need in our town - a place where people interested in art can meet and talk about art. Such design will unite creative people and probably affect modern Azeri art. Some comments about design…Great idea about tools of painting (furniture in the form of pallete, paper rolls, tube with paint). Just a thought…you can try to create picture from fragments rather than simply combining fragments and combine dark colours with light, contrasts are always interesting. Good luck!!! I think our town really need in your project.

The idea of an art cafe sounds very interesting and contemporary. Taking into account the fact that all cafes in Baku look alike, this idea is innovative as well. I have a suggestion though. Although the cafe with a classy Azeri Art is a great idea, I do believe people get bored seeing the same things all the time. I would suggest hosting exhibitions and posting the works of contemporary painters and artists as well. Imagine when the art collection gets renewed every 3 to 6 months. It is also a good ad campaign for new artists. The cafe could encourage and motivate new artists to work hard when they know their works will be posted in the Art Cafe.It will draw a lot more people to the cafe and make the cafe a unique and elite place for the connosieurs of art.
    Good luck to you!
