Selected for scholarships 2009-2010, Course of Fashion Accessories and Shoes design, School of Fashion, IED Rome

Through the years Colombia has been recognized by the terrorism and drug production. Today, many of us colombians have sought the way to exalt the name of “Colombia”, showing another face, full of natural riches and our folklore joy.

My name is Tatiana Peña, proudly colombian. I wish to make of this proyect a mixture between fashion design and the delicious aroma of the mornig. Coffee.

Colombia is the third largest coffee producer and the main soft coffee global producer. Climate and crops make this product unique, so thats why i have discovered that coffe is not just good for tasting but for creating too.

My design consists in a strap-less balloon blouse, tied up with a beautifull cint decorated with roasted coffee beans, accompanied with a purse as accesorie, totally covered with roasted coffee beans, with a strip thats gives the perfect touch for its completion.

Project title: LV DID IT
Selected for shcolarships 2009-2010, Course of Graphic Design, School of Visual Arts, IED Milan

DID - Dissociative identity disorder (DID),
as defined by the DSM, is a psychiatric diagnosis
that describes a condition in which a single person
displays multiple distinct identities or personalities
(known as alter egos or alters), each with its own
pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment.
The diagnosis requires that at least two personalities routinely
take control of the individual’s behavior with an
associated memory loss that goes
beyond normal forgetfulness. (Wikipedia)

This project is a bit political and a bit ironic poster about country Latvia (LV).
Why Latvia looks like naked woman with 2 heads, 3 legs, and bag-hand?
There are a lot of contradictions in the country. So I call it - Dissociative identity disorder. J
Latvia is like young woman=country with 2 heads - Latvian and Russian head (because we have 2 big communities of people in and they are fighting all the time after the Fall of the USSR in 1991. We have the same legs and hands, but our minds are fighting because of political games and hurt from the past. Latvians scream - “Russians! Speak only Latvian! Better go away to Russia! “. And Russians feel resentful and don` t study Latvian language. It` s conflict and politics use this weak point of people` thinking.. Latvia has DID and also she is “Siamese Twins”, because there are 2 Latvias actually! One Latvia is composed of citizens and the second Latvia is composed of non-citizens – Russians, Ukrainians etc.

The second reason, why I` m sure that Latvia has DID is: Latvians are very patriotic, but in the same time really big part of them went away to West Europe and to USA. American dream with happy endings blows their minds and people forget the patriotism. That` s why woman on poster has 3 legs; she is sitting on her knees and at the same time she wants to move away to better life` s direction. And she is holding her bag because she is always ready to run away from her country.

I am not trying to defy quarrel with this poster. I am not screaming about social problems. I would but it does not work for a pity. I` d like to publish this drawing like postcard or to stick on the walls on the streets, just to let people see how do they (we) look sometimes, and to give them some information to think about. So, don` t take me too seriously. I` m just one of DID )))))

I wish to tell to you about idea of creation of my collection. In search of inspiration I have addressed to the roots, to a heritage of the country, to the elements describing my country as it is very rich material for creative ideas.

Source for creation of a collection became valenki (felt boots)- a symbol of Russian culture, traditions and customs. It is traditional, native Russian footwear which carry in frosty weather. Valenki-very warm boots from felt (from the sheep wool). They are ecologically pure product and them do since 18 centuries. By manufacture a valenki scissors, thread and needle do not use. It is footwear without seams.

But now, unfortunately, valenki carry very seldom and basically in village. I consider, that this footwear is not deservedly forgotten. In my collection I have tried to add in this unique footwear of modern elements (a high heel) and some details that this footwear approached for a modern life.

This collection is created for the young girl who keeps up to date, watches fashionable tendencies, but also does not forget about the roots and national features of the native land. I have developed bags for a collection, muff and a backpack from felt and from woolen scarfs (Russian national scarfs), and also a dress and suits from felt, jersey, chiffon and a wool.

In a attempt to show a little bit of Brazilian people liability to create and take life as much happier as we can, even with all the poverty around us we can step over to achieve a good mood daily basis life and trying any path to produce art and also using as inspiration our own people and our own landscapes.

Cali Colombia is a beautiful city full of landscapes music, food and nice people with traditions that reflect joy and creativity.

The Cholado is a typical drink in wich tropical fruits and syrup are mix with different flavors. When you combine this flavors with frosted ice and condensed milk you will experience something sweet and colorful.
Talking about Cali in the afternoon is talking about the cool breeze that falls from the cliffs that plays with the colors of the skirts of beautiful women that moves their hips with the rhythm of salsa, discover shoulders to the sun and a big smile that welcomes you to “La sucursal del Cielo”.

A Sunday in the park of “Las banderas” after the classic match at “the pascual “curtains of red and green t-shirts, long lines of candy cones, kids running behind their kites, colorful umbrellas that gives shadow to a large variety of flowers, fruits and couples with their cholados, sweet ones, red as a kiss of love, because “Cali es del cielo La sucursal”.

My project consists of one basic movile unit, built with lightweight materials, that holds the basic services to produce the cholado.
It is a flexible module that can be expanded at any time by textile walls with indirect lighting to set a natural environment that is inserted in an urban area offers fun and sophistication.

Project title: Garota de Ipanema
Selected scholarships 2009-2010, Course of Shoes and Accessories Design, School of Fashion, IED Rome

Girl from Ipanema

The chosen drawing was a dress inspired by the lyrics of the song ‘Garota de Ipanema’ (Girl from Ipanema) written by the composer Tom Jobim – one of the greatest composers of Brazilian popular music and one of the creators of Bossa Nova (Brazilian musical movement that has emerged between the 50s and 60s).

To represent the ‘Girl from Ipanema’ refered by Tom Jobim in his song, was also used as inspiration: the city of Rio de Janeiro and the Corcovado that composed the scenario for the Girl from Ipanema, the Brazilian woman itself, the Copacabana sidewalk that served as print with its waves of black and white and the Brazil´s tropical landscape.

The elaborated piece was a tropical printed dress, short and loose with tracks on the bust representing the Corcovado. Among the prints there are a typical palm of coastal cities of Brazil and the waves of black and white from the sidewalk of Copacabana.

Here is a snippet of music for inspiration:
