Project title: Eagle tram - Mexico
Selected for scholarships 2009-2010, Course of Transportation Design, School of Design, IED Turin

In my country, Mexico, there is one of the biggest and most populated cities in the World: Mexico city; living in such a big territory with so many in habitants, topics as public transportation, pollution, traffic, etc arise to society and become a really big issue to solve. That is why my proposal is a new, efficient and ecologic transportation: AN ELEVATED TRAM, which runs trough the main and mostly used streets or avenues of the capital.

In many ways the construction of the tram will be very beneficial because currently the metro line is very vast and covers in its majority the city’s area, construction cost and expenses for new metro lines are excessively high and because México city is built above Texcoco Lake underground excavations are very insecure due to water excess. Besides that public buses in the metropolitan area are very contaminating and take big amounts of space in main streets, causing traffic jams, noise, accidents and pollution.

This elevated tram does not pollute, specially because of the solar panels at the top which make solar energy its sole source of energy; it also does not require elevated construction costs and it transports in a safe and fast manner its thousands of users per day.

Finally I choose for the tram’s design to resemble an eagle, which is the national emblem of the Mexican flag, giving the project a part of the culture of my country.
