Project Title: The Bridge of Different Cultural Backgrounds - Turkey
Selected for scholarships 2009-2010, Course of Fashion Design, School of Fashion, IED Milan

Turkey is a big country which services as a bridge of different cultural backgrounds.
Three religious backgrounds are living together in peace in the same country. This was the main idea of my project. Yet, instead of directly reflecting the typical images of different religions, I wanted to show them as different colors which sometimes overlap, dissociate, yet still exist on the same T-shirt.

These colors are like the shadows of different cultures which live together. And the T-shirts are the common backgrounds they share, Turkey, their country.

I love the idea of the bridges because they always unite different things. Maybe because I live in Istanbul, I love the idea that a bridge can even  unite two very big continents. This is why I mostly used ribbons which unite at some points of the T-shirts. I guess that this was the best way to symbolically show the role of Turkey as the bridge of different cultural backgrounds.
